The University of Olivet CARE (Concern, Assessment, Response, and Evaluation) Team provides coordinated support for students and addresses concerns about student behavior, academic progress, and personal issues. The CARE Team gathers information from personal contact with students, faculty, staff, and family members, as well as from reports submitted by members of the community.
The CARE Team is committed to the following:
Assessing the most appropriate way to intervene and support a student
Balancing the needs of an individual student with the needs of the University of Olivet community
Identifying students of concern who are in need of extra support
Intervening so a student may achieve academic and personal success
How does the CARE Team work?
The CARE Team meets every other week during the academic year and as needed. The Team is comprised of several college employees who interact with students in a variety of settings. The Team identifies individual needs of students and the appropriate responses and/or services. The ultimate goal of the CARE Team is to proactively support and serve students brought to the Team’s attention.
Reasons to refer a student to the CARE Team include:
The student becomes increasingly isolated, unkempt, irritable, or disconnected.
The student complains about being bullied.
The student is abusing alcohol and/or drugs.
The student is dealing with significant family issues (e.g. death, divorce or illness).
The student makes threats or displays aggression.
The student remains distressed following attempts by you and others to be helpful.
The student shows significant and marked changes in behavior or mood.
The student's academic or social performance deteriorates.
The student's behavior reflects increased hopelessness or helplessness.
